The truth is, BV is a common vaginal infection. In fact, it’s estimated that one in three women of reproductive age will experience it at least once during their lifetime. BV is caused by an imbalance in your vaginal flora that means the ‘bad’
bacteria outweigh the ‘good’ bacteria. As a result, your body’s natural pH and volatile amine levels increase, and you may notice an unpleasant odour or thin, greyish-white discharge. You might also experience a burning sensation,
pain when you go to the toilet and general vaginal discomfort.
The symptoms can be extremely uncomfortable to deal with, and they could even be preventing you from living each day to the full. This means that finding a suitable BV treatment is important for your health and wellbeing.
There’s no reason to put up with BV. Help fight this infection and become unstoppable again with the clinically proven BETAFEM® BV Gel. This specially formulated BV Gel provides you with an antibiotic-free solution to help
protect your intimate health.
Our BV Gel works to create a physical barrier to prevent the bad bacteria from attaching to the wall of the vagina. It helps to restore and normalise your body’s natural vaginal flora, balance your pH levels, and to relieve unpleasant odour and
abnormal discharge. This BV treatment is not absorbed into your bloodstream, meaning that due to the way it works, women are unlikely to experience side effects.
BETAFEM® BV Gel is provided with 7 single use applicators and can be used to treat or prevent recurrent BV.
For the treatment of BV, apply 1 full applicator (5 g) once daily for 7 days. It is best to apply the gel at bedtime. Ensure that you complete all 7 applications, even if your symptoms disappear.
For the prevention of BV, apply 1 full applicator (5 g) once every second day. Again, this is best done at bedtime.

BETAFEM® BV Gel FAQ
For detailed product information, including safety information, special warnings and precautions, please consult the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) available.
What is BETAFEM® BV Gel and how does it work?
BETAFEM® BV Gel treats and prevents recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis (BV). It is a non-antibiotic treatment that works by creating a physical barrier that prevents ‘bad’ bacteria from adhering to the vaginal wall. In turn, this helps to restore the natural vaginal flora, normalise the vaginal pH and allow good bacteria to thrive, providing relief from the symptoms of BV.
Can I use BETAFEM® BV Gel if my Bacterial Vaginosis comes back again?
Yes, you can use BETAFEM® BV Gel to treat Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and to prevent recurrence. BETAFEM® BV Gel is clinically proven to prevent recurrent BV. To treat BV, use the gel vaginally, once a day for 7 days. To stop BV from recurring, you use the gel once every other day. Ensure that you complete all 7 applications, even if your symptoms disappear.
How is BETAFEM® BV Gel different from other BV treatments?
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is often treated with a course of antibiotics. BETAFEM® BV Gel is different. It is a non-antibiotic therapy that isn’t absorbed into the bloodstream. It contains astodrimer sodium 1%, which works by creating a physical barrier that repulses harmful bacteria from coming close to the vaginal wall.
How Do I Use BETAFEM® BV Gel?
A single dose of BETAFEM® BV Gel (5g) is to be filled into the applicator.
Follow the steps below to prepare the applicator for use:
- Remove cap from tube and puncture metal seal on tube with the pointed tip of cap.
- Remove one applicator from the wrapper and screw the threaded end onto the tube.
- Slowly squeeze the tube from the bottom to fill the applicator with gel until the plunger stops moving. The applicator now contains the correct amount of gel.
- Once filled, unscrew the applicator from the tube and replace the tube cap. The filled applicator is now ready to be used.
- In a sitting or standing position, hold the applicator barrel between the thumb and middle finger, and gently insert the applicator as far as comfortably possible into the vagina.
- Hold the applicator in place and slowly push the plunger until it stops dispersing the gel into the vagina.
- Carefully remove the applicator, keeping the plunger depressed.
- Dispose of the used tube and applicator responsibly into a waste container. Do not flush into the toilet.
Ensure that you complete all 7 applications, even if your symptoms disappear.
For detailed product information, including safety information, special warnings and precautions, please consult the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) available.
Can I use BETAFEM® BV Gel if I have my period?
Yes, BETAFEM® BV Gel is suitable to be used during your period.
Will BETAFEM® BV Gel interfere with any other products or medications?
BETAFEM® BV Gel is not expected to interfere with medications because astodrimer sodium solution (contained within the gel) is not absorbed into the bloodstream following vaginal application. Due to incompatibility, use of other vaginal products containing polyquaterniums, which are found in some personal lubricants, should be avoided while using BETAFEM® BV Gel .
Can I have sex if I use BETAFEM® BV Gel?
BETAFEM® BV Gel can be used with condoms, however it is recommended to apply BETAFEM® BV Gel after any sexual activity if you are using the product at bedtime.
What do I get in a pack of BETAFEM® BV Gel?
Each carton contains one sealed multi-dose aluminium tube containing 40 grams of BETAFEM® BV Gel, sufficient for 7 doses. It includes 7 single use, disposable, measured dose vaginal applicators and clear instructions for use.
